1957 Maserati 250F

Sir Stirling Moss once described the 250F as the best front-engined racing car he ever drove. Initially powered by 2.5 litre straight-6 naturally aspirated engine, the car was a winner right out of the box with Juan Manuel Fangio winning the first of his 2 victories in 1954 – before leaving to join the Mercedes works team.

By 1957, the straight-6 had been replaced by a V12 and Fangio used it to gain 4 more Grand Prix victories on the way to his 5th (and last) World Championship.

The car shown is the legendary 1957 German Grand Prix winner at the Nürburgring, a race in which Fangio overcame a 48 second deficit in 22 laps. He passed race leader Mike Hawthorn on the final lap to take the win and in doing so broke the lap record 10 times. It was to be his final win, retiring from competitive racing in 1958.
