Audi R8. 2000.
This was the first of both Audi’s and Tom Kristensen’s run of victories in the 24 hour race. The Audi R8 was entered under Audi Sport Team Joest and ran in the LMP900 class. Audi R8s filled all of the top three places and dominated the event - the winner finishing over 24 laps ahead of the first non-Audi R8 - the fourth placed Courage entered by Pescarolo Sport.
Audi went on to win twice more with the R8, followed by 4 more with the R10 and R15 spec cars, while Kristensen was now on his way to his record of 9 wins to date.
The winning no. 8 Audi was driven by Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Tom Kristensen.
