In 1970, Porsche was dominating the FIA World Sportswear Championship with the 917. For the twistier characteristics of the Targa Florio however, it was decided to field the nimbler 3 litre 908/03. For cars were entered, 3 by JWA Gulf Racing Team and one from Porsche Salzburg. This car - no.12 was the winner, driven by Jo Siffert and Brian Redman.
