The first 917 to race in the Can Am championship in the USA. This car was one of the first chassis built and featured unique open spyder bodywork. To comply with the SCCA's Can Am rules, no refuelling was allowed during races, so the car did not feature external fuel filler caps. The car was raced during the latter half of 1969, driven by Jo Siffert.
